So far we have seen that the LORD created everything in chapters 1-2. We saw the serpent trick Adam and Eve to sin in Genesis 3 with a full belly, yet the last Adam defeats Satan on an empty stomach. The LORD gives the promise that the seed of the woman will bruise the serpents head. So in chapter 4 the devil begins to attack the seed. He moves Cain to murder Abel. However the LORD has the seed come through Seth instead.
Sons Of God Attempt To Corrupt The Seed
Gen 6:1 And it came to pass, when men began to multiply on the face of the earth, and daughters were born unto them,
Gen 6:2 That the sons of God saw the daughters of men that they were fair; and they took them wives of all which they chose.
The Old Testament uses the phrase “sons of God” for angels. Notice the distinction between “sons of GOD” and “daughters of MEN”. Adam is called a “son of God” in Luke 3:38 because he is a direct creation by God.
Job 1:6 Now there was a day when the sons of God came to present themselves before the LORD, and Satan came also among them.
Job 2:1 Again there was a day when the sons of God came to present themselves before the LORD, and Satan came also among them to present himself before the LORD.
Job 38:7 When the morning stars sang together, and all the sons of God shouted for joy?
This reminds me how the serpent tempted Eve back in Genesis 3.
Gen 3:4 And the serpent said unto the woman, Ye shall not surely die:
Gen 3:5 For God doth know that in the day ye eat thereof, then your eyes shall be opened, and ye shall be as gods, knowing good and evil. (As “gods”, like those sons of god)
Gen 3:6 And when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree to be desired to make one wise, she took of the fruit thereof, and did eat, and gave also unto her husband with her; and he did eat.
The devil deceived Eve and he used something pleasant to the eyes to do it. I believe he did the same thing with the “sons of God” who looked on the “daughters of men” that were “fair”. (Beautiful).
He told Eve she would be “as godS”. (Like one of those sons of God). And the sons of God became like HUMAN MEN after their fall here.
Psa 82:6 I have said, Ye are gods; and all of you are children of the most High.
Psa 82:7 But ye shall die like men, and fall like one of the princes.
Eve wanted to be like those gods and the angels wanted to be like the humans and pick out a wife. Possibly envious of everything given to Adam, especially that soul given to Adam in Genesis 2:17.
Gen 6:3 And the LORD said, My spirit shall not always strive with man, for that he also is flesh: yet his days shall be an hundred and twenty years.
Gen 6:4 There were giants in the earth in those days; and also after that, when the sons of God came in unto the daughters of men, and they bare children to them, the same became mighty men which were of old, men of renown.
Giants in the earth in those days and after. You see more of them in the Bible.
- Goliath: A Philistine giant. (Killed by David)
- Og: King of Bashan (killed by Moses)
- Ishbibenob: A Philistine giant (killed by Abishai)
- Saph: A Philistine giant slain by Sibbecai the Hushathite
- Lahmi: Goliath’s brother, also a giant. (Killed by Elhanan the son of Jair)
- Unnamed Giant: Described as having six fingers on each hand and six toes on each foot (killed by Jonathan son of Shimea)
Little people with a big God will always kill big people with a little god.
The Bible mentions several giant clans, including the Nephilim, the Anakim, the Zamzummim (Zuzim), and the Emim, as well as the Rephaim and the Amorites.
To give you an idea of how big they were, in Numbers 13:33 the Israelites were like grasshoppers in their sight.
Amos 2:9 says their height is like Cedars.
Job 16:14 says “he runneth upon me like a giant”. So early on at least it seems giants were not clumsy but someone that could easily run up on their prey.
Gen 6:5 And GOD saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually.
Imagine living as Noah in the days of Noah. The giants, the violence, the sin, and sons of God running rampant. God was protecting Noah way before he got on that ark.
That reminds me of how God’s supernatural hand protected me in this present evil world before I got in Jesus Christ.
Gen 6:6 And it repented the LORD that he had made man on the earth, and it grieved him at his heart.
Gen 6:7 And the LORD said, I will destroy man whom I have created from the face of the earth; both man, and beast, and the creeping thing, and the fowls of the air; for it repenteth me that I have made them.
Things didn’t turn out how God wanted them to. His original plan was for Adam and Eve to pass the test in the garden, eat off the tree of life and live forever.
Imagine the feeling you get when the things you create don’t turn out like you want them to. It hurts.
Gen 6:8 But Noah found grace in the eyes of the LORD.
Gen 6:9 These are the generations of Noah: Noah was a just man and perfect in his generations, and Noah walked with God. (Like his great grandfather Enoch)
His line hadn’t been corrupted by the sons of God.
Perhaps he thought if he walked with God he would get raptured too.
Gen 6:10 And Noah begat three sons, Shem, Ham, and Japheth.
Gen 6:11 The earth also was corrupt before God, and the earth was filled with violence.
Noah had kids even though the world was a horrible place. Don’t let anyone guilt you out of having kids in a wicked world.
Gen 6:17 And, behold, I, even I, do bring a flood of waters upon the earth, to destroy all flesh, wherein is the breath of life, from under heaven; and every thing that is in the earth shall die.
Gen 6:18 But with thee will I establish my covenant; and thou shalt come into the ark, thou, and thy sons, and thy wife, and thy sons’ wives with thee.
Noah was to bring in two of all the animals (6:19) and the clean beasts, fowls by sevens. (Genesis 7:2-3)
Gen 6:21 And take thou unto thee of all food that is eaten, and thou shalt gather it to thee; and it shall be for food for thee, and for them
It rains for forty days and forty nights while 600 year old Noah was on the ark. (Genesis 7:4)
Chapter 7 – The Flood Comes
Gen 7:13 In the selfsame day entered Noah, and Shem, and Ham, and Japheth, the sons of Noah, and Noah’s wife, and the three wives of his sons with them, into the ark;
Gen 7:14 They, and every beast after his kind, and all the cattle after their kind, and every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth after his kind, and every fowl after his kind, every bird of every sort.
So imagine Mrs.Noah in there with her daughters n law with no way to escape.
Gen 7:16 And they that went in, went in male and female of all flesh, as God had commanded him: and the LORD shut him in.
If the LORD shut him in, those giants aren’t getting in.
Gen 7:17 And the flood was forty days upon the earth; and the waters increased, and bare up the ark, and it was lift up above the earth.
Chapter 8 – Noah’s Bird Test
Gen 8:1 And God remembered Noah, and every living thing, and all the cattle that was with him in the ark: and God made a wind to pass over the earth, and the waters asswaged;
Gen 8:2 The fountains also of the deep and the windows of heaven were stopped, and the rain from heaven was restrained;
Gen 8:3 And the waters returned from off the earth continually: and after the end of the hundred and fifty days the waters were abated.
Gen 8:6 And it came to pass at the end of forty days, that Noah opened the window of the ark which he had made:
The “window of the ark” pictures that window up in heaven.
Gen 8:7 And he sent forth a raven, which went forth to and fro, until the waters were dried up from off the earth.
The ravens picture unclean spirits. And when he lets go of that raven it pictures Satan getting kicked out of heaven and “going to and fro” until the waters are really dried up!
Rev 21:1 And I saw a new heaven and a new earth: for the first heaven and the first earth were passed away; and there was no more sea.
Gen 8:8 Also he sent forth a dove from him, to see if the waters were abated from off the face of the ground;
Gen 8:9 But the dove found no rest for the sole of her foot, and she returned unto him into the ark, for the waters were on the face of the whole earth: then he put forth his hand, and took her, and pulled her in unto him into the ark.
The dove pictures the Holy Spirit. It doesn’t find rest from Adam to the law. But in the church age it rests in the believers!
And like the Holy Spirit, we shouldn’t find rest in the earth. We should rest IN HIM!
Gen 8:9 But the dove found no rest for the sole of her foot, and she returned unto him into the ark, for the waters were on the face of the whole earth: then he put forth his hand, and took her, and pulled her in unto him into the ark.
This pictures the rapture. Noah pictures the LORD reaching out and grabbing the saints, who just so happened to be sealed by the HOLY SPIRIT, pictured by the dove.
So the dove comes in and stays in SEVEN DAYS, picturing the tribulation.
Gen 8:10 And he stayed yet other seven days; and again he sent forth the dove out of the ark;
Now he lets the dove loose again, it comes back with an olive leaf, which pictures the nation of ISRAEL!
Gen 8:11 And the dove came in to him in the evening; and, lo, in her mouth was an olive leaf pluckt off: so Noah knew that the waters were abated from off the earth.
What you have there is a picture of the restoration of Israel after the seven year tribulation.
Gen 8:20 And Noah builded an altar unto the LORD; and took of every clean beast, and of every clean fowl, and offered burnt offerings on the altar.
This is why he brought 7 of the clean animals. The world needs to be completely repopulated, but God is still more important to Noah than the world.
Gen 8:21 And the LORD smelled a sweet savour; and the LORD said in his heart, I will not again curse the ground any more for man’s sake; for the imagination of man’s heart is evil from his youth; neither will I again smite any more every thing living, as I have done.
Gen 8:22 While the earth remaineth, seedtime and harvest, and cold and heat, and summer and winter, and day and night shall not cease.
Chapter 9 – God’s Covenant With Noah
Gen 9:1 And God blessed Noah and his sons, and said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth.
Gen 9:2 And the fear of you and the dread of you shall be upon every beast of the earth, and upon every fowl of the air, upon all that moveth upon the earth, and upon all the fishes of the sea; into your hand are they delivered.
Noah is given dominion just like Adam was in Genesis 1:28. He comes off the ark as king of the whole earth.
Gen 9:4 But flesh with the life thereof, which is the blood thereof, shall ye not eat.
Gen 9:5 And surely your blood of your lives will I require; at the hand of every beast will I require it, and at the hand of man; at the hand of every man’s brother will I require the life of man.
Gen 9:6 Whoso sheddeth man’s blood, by man shall his blood be shed: for in the image of God made he man.
Capital punishment is instituted here in verse 6.
Gen 9:12 And God said, This is the token of the covenant which I make between me and you and every living creature that is with you, for perpetual generations:
Gen 9:13 I do set my bow in the cloud, and it shall be for a token of a covenant between me and the earth.
Gen 9:14 And it shall come to pass, when I bring a cloud over the earth, that the bow shall be seen in the cloud:
Gen 9:15 And I will remember my covenant, which is between me and you and every living creature of all flesh; and the waters shall no more become a flood to destroy all flesh.
Gen 9:28 And Noah lived after the flood three hundred and fifty years.
Gen 9:29 And all the days of Noah were nine hundred and fifty years: and he died.
CHAPTER 10 – GENERATIONS OF THE SONS OF NOAH
Gen 10:8 And Cush begat Nimrod: he began to be a mighty one in the earth.
Gen 10:9 He was a mighty hunter before the LORD: wherefore it is said, Even as Nimrod the mighty hunter before the LORD.
Gen 10:10 And the beginning of his kingdom was Babel, and Erech, and Accad, and Calneh, in the land of Shinar.
1Co 1:26 For ye see your calling, brethren, how that not many wise men after the flesh, not many mighty, not many noble, are called:
1Co 1:27 But God hath chosen the foolish things of the world to confound the wise; and God hath chosen the weak things of the world to confound the things which are mighty;
Gen 10:21 Unto Shem also, the father of all the children of Eber, the brother of Japheth the elder, even to him were children born.
Shem is where the Jews come from. This is why you have the phrase “antisemitism”. And “Eber” is why they are called “Hebrews”.
Chapter 11 – Tower Of Babel
Gen 11:1 And the whole earth was of one language, and of one speech.
This pictures the one world government that the Antichrist will rule over.
Nimrod is a type of the Antichrist.
- 13th from Adam (# associated with the Antichrist and represents rebellion)
- Name means rebel.
- He is known as a “mighty hunter” before the LORD.
- Associated with Babylon.
- And a one world government.
- reigns right before a language change. (Zeph 3:9)
Gen 11:2 And it came to pass, as they journeyed from the east, that they found a plain in the land of Shinar; and they dwelt there.
Gen 11:3 And they said one to another, Go to, let us make brick, and burn them throughly. And they had brick for stone, and slime had they for morter.
Gen 11:4 And they said, Go to, let us build us a city and a tower, whose top may reach unto heaven; and let us make us a name, lest we be scattered abroad upon the face of the whole earth.
Notice they continually say “let us”. This is similar to what God said back in Genesis 1-2 when he was in the act of creation. Man wants to play God and create his own way. This is why the construction of the tower was so evil in the eyes of God.
Also they were supposed to “scatter abroad” when they got off the ark. He told them to be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth. Instead they got together and did things without God.
I believe they were trying to “reach heaven” to get back in contact with the sons of God of Genesis 6.
Gen 11:5 And the LORD came down to see the city and the tower, which the children of men builded.
Another way that Nimrod pictures the antichrist because the LORD also comes down to see the antichrist kingdom at the second coming.
Gen 11:6 And the LORD said, Behold, the people is one, and they have all one language; and this they begin to do: and now nothing will be restrained from them, which they have imagined to do.
Gen 11:7 Go to, let us go down, and there confound their language, that they may not understand one another’s speech.
Gen 11:8 So the LORD scattered them abroad from thence upon the face of all the earth: and they left off to build the city.
Gen 11:9 Therefore is the name of it called Babel; because the LORD did there confound the language of all the earth: and from thence did the LORD scatter them abroad upon the face of all the earth.
They wanted to “make themselves a name”. So they end up being called “Babel”. What does someone say you’re doing when you’re speaking nonsense? They say “you’re babeling”. Also haven’t you heard someone call someone a “Nimrod”? They really did make themselves a name.
The one carrying the seed after the flood would be Noah’s son Shem. From him came Eber and from Eber eventually came Abraham.
Gen 11:27 Now these are the generations of Terah: Terah begat Abram, Nahor, and Haran; and Haran begat Lot.
Gen 11:28 And Haran died before his father Terah in the land of his nativity, in Ur of the Chaldees.
Gen 11:29 And Abram and Nahor took them wives: the name of Abram’s wife was Sarai; and the name of Nahor’s wife, Milcah, the daughter of Haran, the father of Milcah, and the father of Iscah.
Gen 11:30 But Sarai was barren; she had no child.
Gen 11:31 And Terah took Abram his son, and Lot the son of Haran his son’s son, and Sarai his daughter in law, his son Abram’s wife; and they went forth with them from Ur of the Chaldees, to go into the land of Canaan; and they came unto Haran, and dwelt there.
Gen 11:32 And the days of Terah were two hundred and five years: and Terah died in Haran.
So Abram will be our next main character for awhile.
