What Parts Of The Bible Should You Read?

What Parts Of The Bible Should You Read?

In 1 Timothy 4:1-5 Paul gets into how in the latter times men will “depart from the faith”. So how can you be sure not to be in that group?

Look down in verse 6…

1Ti 4:6  If thou put the brethren in remembrance of these things, thou shalt be a good minister of Jesus Christ, nourished up in the words of faith and of good doctrine, whereunto thou hast attained.

1Ti 4:7  But refuse profane and old wives’ fables, and exercise thyself rather unto godliness.

1Ti 4:8  For bodily exercise profiteth little: but godliness is profitable unto all things, having promise of the life that now is, and of that which is to come.

1Ti 4:9  This is a faithful saying and worthy of all acceptation.

1Ti 4:10  For therefore we both labour and suffer reproach, because we trust in the living God, who is the Saviour of all men, specially of those that believe.

1Ti 4:11  These things command and teach.

1Ti 4:12  Let no man despise thy youth; but be thou an example of the believers, in word, in conversation, in charity, in spirit, in faith, in purity.

1Ti 4:13  Till I come, give attendance to reading, to exhortation, to doctrine.

1Ti 4:14  Neglect not the gift that is in thee, which was given thee by prophecy, with the laying on of the hands of the presbytery.

1Ti 4:15  Meditate upon these things; give thyself wholly to them; that thy profiting may appear to all.

1Ti 4:16  Take heed unto thyself, and unto the doctrine; continue in them: for in doing this thou shalt both save thyself, and them that hear thee.

So in verse 6 he said to be “nourished up in the words of faith and of good doctrine.”

Verse 8 “exercise thyself rather unto godliness”

Verse 13 “till I come give attendance to reading to doctrine”.

Verse 15 he says “meditate upon these things”

“Give thyself wholly unto them”

“Continue in them”.

To do these things your going to have to get a King James Bible, preferably a wide margin, and live in it.

Many times I’ve heard people say that there are parts of the Bible that you don’t have to read. Or they will say “I don’t see why you have to read the whole thing”.

So this will be called “what parts of the Bible should you read?!“

GENESIS

Mat 19:4  And he answered and said unto them, Have ye not read, that he which made them at the beginning made them male and female,

Jesus commonly asked men “have ye not read”. Here he says “have ye not read that be which made them at the BEGINNING made them MALE and FEMALE”.

This shows me he expects me to read Genesis. That is the Old Testament but it tells me where I came from. It tells me how we got in this mess we are in.

Maybe one reason people believe in evolution and don’t know that God made them “male and female”, instead of “male and male”, is because people forsook Genesis along time ago.

Reading Genesis is so beneficial because it tells you where you came from, why your here, why the world is in a mess, and you realize that things haven’t always been like they are now. In Genesis they lived to be 900 something years old for a time.

Jesus expects you to read Genesis! Do you know what else he expects you to read?

Exodus – DEUTERONOMY.

He says in…

Mat 12:5  Or have ye not read in the law, how that on the sabbath days the priests in the temple profane the sabbath, and are blameless?

The LORD was like “you guys are supposed to be the geniuses of your day and have you not even read in the law about this?!”

You have a bunch of religious people out there today who look down on common simple people like us like we don’t have any sense. Yet they don’t know half of what you know. When they jump your back about something unbiblical just say “HAVE YE NOT READ?!” That is how you get them.

Mar 12:26  And as touching the dead, that they rise: have ye not read in the book of Moses, how in the bush God spake unto him, saying, I am the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob?

That’s how Jesus Christ handled these people. It was all about the book. If you didn’t have any bible than you had no room to talk.

Have ye not read Genesis through Deuteronomy? The five Books of Moses?

Paul obviously read it…

1Co 9:9  For it is written in the law of Moses, Thou shalt not muzzle the mouth of the ox that treadeth out the corn. Doth God take care for oxen?

And Paul said..

1Co 11:1  Be ye followers of me, even as I also am of Christ.

If Paul read it and went away and got alone for three years when he first got saved. He probably had it memorized. He had the Old Testament and we know he read it because he quoted it.

Have ye not read Exodus through Deuteronomy?

Have ye not read…

Joshua – Ruth

Act 7:45  Which also our fathers that came after brought in with Jesus into the possession of the Gentiles, whom God drave out before the face of our fathers, unto the days of David;

In acts 7:45 JOSHUA is called JESUS because they are the same NAME! This is Stephen telling you all about the history of the Old Testament and Israel. He obviously read all about JOSHUA.

Read JOSHUA and note how that all the battles will picture they second coming of Jesus Christ. When your reading JOSHUA, your not just reading history, you are reading the future.

Want to be amazed, interested, intrigued, fascinated, and creeped out!? Read the book of Judges. The strangest book of the whole bible.

Paul talks about the judges in Hebrews. He got encouragement from the book of Judges.

Heb 11:32  And what shall I more say? for the time would fail me to tell of Gedeon, and of Barak, and ofSamson, and of Jephthae; of David also, and Samuel, and of the prophets:

I love to read about Samson and how he tied the 300 fox tails together and set them on fire. I love to read how he slew 1,000 men with the jawbone of an ass.

And the book of Ruth took place during the time of judges. She was a Moabite. Moabites are the enemies of God. She became a friend of God. And that book pictures how me and you were once an enemy of God but because of Jesus Christ we were redeemed and became the friend of God. In Ruth she was redeemed by BOAZ. She married into the line of JESUS CHRIST. She is mentioned in the genealogy of JESUS in Matthew chapter 1.

Have ye not read JOSHUA, Judges, and RUTH?!

Have ye not read..

1st Samuel – 2 Chronicles.

Jesus expects you to read it. He wrote it and compiled it and he put it right there in front of you in the table. He said in…

Mat 12:3  But he said unto them, Have ye not read what David did,

Do you know anything that David did other than killing goliath? He did all kinds of other stuff. Do you want to know about the sons of DAVID? And his son KING SOLOMON? The wisest man that ever lived? Do you want to know about the wicked kings and the exciting stories and how they are all compared to king David?

Read the books of the kings. In Matthew chapter 1 you’ll see how Jesus Christ is in the line of the kings because he is of the tribe of Judah and David is the tribe of JUDAH! Read through the books of the kings and Matthew chapter 1 will make a lot more sense.

The Bible is about KINGS and KINGDOMS. It is about who is on the throne. Most of the time you have a wicked king on the throne and the people served him more than they served God. Today you have a throne in your heart. Is Jesus Christ in that throne in your heart? Or is it you?

Have ye not read about the kings?

Have ye not read about Job?

Job

James has read all about Job.

Jas 5:11  Behold, we count them happy which endure. Ye have heard of the patience of Job, and have seen the end of the Lord; that the Lord is very pitiful, and of tender mercy.

When your going through hard times and you think you have it bad, go to Job and see how he handled it. He didn’t curse GOD!

He lost his friends, his wife went crazy, his kids died. You saw how Satan approaches God to get permission to destroy

Have you not read it? Not even once? I wanted to make sure my daughter heard it. So when she was 2 months i set her in a comfortable padded rocking chair and set her up. I read her the whole book of Job. She just sit there and smiled at me. You say well that don’t count.

The Bible is supernatural. The words got in her.  I’ve dumped gallons and gallons of seed in her heart of the word of God. And it got in my heart as I read it to her.

Have you never read Job?

Have you ever read….

Psalms – Song Of Solomon

These are the wisdom books! People today don’t have any wisdom. A grey head don’t mean nothing no more. People want to get rid of their grey hair. Some of them might need to because it’s supposed to be a sign of wisdom and they don’t have any. Some of them need to dye it blacker than a gothic, emo, style person, who is lead singer of one of those death metal bands.

With all thy getting you need to get wisdom.

Luk 24:44  And he said unto them, These are the words which I spake unto you, while I was yet with you, that all things must be fulfilled, which were written in the law of Moses, and in the prophets, and in the psalms, concerning me.

Jesus Christ read the PSALMS! He knew all about it. He even said it was about HIMSELF! He declared the things in it CONCERNED HIM!

Read through Psalms and keep in mind that it isn’t just something to give you comfort. It talks about doctrine for the tribulation and the millennium.

What about the PROVERBS?

Peter READ THEM!

2Pe 2:22  But it is happened unto them according to the true proverb, The dog is turned to his own vomit again; and the sow that was washed to her wallowing in the mire.

They say a proverb a day will keep the devil away! I don’t know about that but a proverb a day will put a damper on the old man. It will be like taking a shotgun and shooting him back to his grave where he belongs. Your flesh likes to rise up out of the grave even though he is already dead. Take a proverb, hide behind a tombstone and shoot him. It will push him back bit by bit until he just falls in.

Read the proverbs. Solomon was given by wisdom by the LORD. He was David’s son. He had a lot of sense. He wrote Proverbs, Ecclesiastes, and Song of Solomon.

Jesus knew all about Solomon. He read all his stuff. He even speaks about Solomon’s wisdom.

Luk 11:31  The queen of the south shall rise up in the judgment with the men of this generation, and condemn them: for she came from the utmost parts of the earth to hear the wisdom of Solomon; and, behold, a greater than Solomon is here.

Those are your wisdom books. You need to get a hold of those wisdom books.

Have ye not read…the

Minor prophets.

Paul did…

Rom 9:25  As he saith also in Osee, I will call them my people, which were not my people; and her beloved, which was not beloved.

Luke records how Peters verse when he preached was out of the book of Joel…

Act 2:16  But this is that which was spoken by the prophet Joel;

Jesus loved the story of Jonah and the whale.  He knew it was a type of himself.

Mat 12:39  But he answered and said unto them, An evil and adulterous generation seeketh after a sign; and there shall no sign be given to it, but the sign of the prophet Jonas:

Mat 12:40  For as Jonas was three days and three nights in the whale’s belly; so shall the Son of man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth.

Those minor prophets are just minor because they are small. But they aren’t LESS IMPORTANT. Those minor prophets are chalked full of verses about the tribulation and the second coming.

But have ye not read?

Have ye not read the GOSPELS?!

Matthew, Mark, Luke, John

1Pe 2:21  For even hereunto were ye called: because Christ also suffered for us, leaving us an example, that ye should follow his steps:

1Pe 2:22  Who did no sin, neither was guile found in his mouth:

1Pe 2:23  Who, when he was reviled, reviled not again; when he suffered, he threatened not; but committed himself to him that judgeth righteously:

1Pe 2:24  Who his own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness: by whose stripes ye were healed.

If you don’t read the gospels than you won’t see how Jesus suffered for you. Walked this wicked world for you. Was tempted in all points like as we are FOR YOU. Bled and died for you. Was buried and resurrected for you.

Peter got to walk and talk with Jesus and witness it face to face. But he calls the Bible a “more sure word of prophecy” and reading about what Jesus did in the Bible is even better than being there! It is more SURE.

In Matthew it shows you that JESUS is KING. Mark shows you how he is a servant. In Luke it shows you the MAN CHRIST JESUS. And John shows you Jesus Christ THE SON OF GOD, God manifested in the flesh.

Pauline Epistles.

The Pauline epistles is where you find the doctrine for you today. Do you know who read Paul? PETER!

2Pe 3:15  And account that the longsuffering of our Lord is salvation; even as our beloved brother Paul also according to the wisdom given unto him hath written unto you;

2Pe 3:16  As also in all his epistles, speaking in them of these things; in which are some things hard to be understood, which they that are unlearned and unstable wrest, as they do also the other scriptures, unto their own destruction.

Even though Paul “withstood him to the face” and confronted him for his hypocrisy he still didn’t miss reading the Pauline epistles.

Paul wrote letters to churches and to young preachers that he mentored like Timothy. He wanted others to read the epistles and not just the person or people they were wrote to.

Col 4:16  And when this epistle is read among you, cause that it be read also in the church of the Laodiceans; and that ye likewise read the epistle from Laodicea.

The LORD wants to be sure that YOUR CHURCH also reads the epistle to the Colossians, Thessalonians, and Corinthians.

Eph 3:3  How that by revelation he made known unto me the mystery; (as I wrote afore in few words,

Eph 3:4  Whereby, when ye read, ye may understand my knowledge in the mystery of Christ)

If Paul was here today he would expect you to READ!

1Th 5:27  I charge you by the Lord that this epistle be read unto all the holy brethren.

Revelation

Rev 1:3  Blessed is he that readeth, and they that hear the words of this prophecy, and keep those things which are written therein: for the time is at hand.

1Co 10:6  Now these things were our examples, to the intent we should not lust after evil things, as they also lusted.

1Co 10:7  Neither be ye idolaters, as were some of them; as it is written, The people sat down to eat and drink, and rose up to play.

1Co 10:8  Neither let us commit fornication, as some of them committed, and fell in one day three and twenty thousand.

1Co 10:9  Neither let us tempt Christ, as some of them also tempted, and were destroyed of serpents.

1Co 10:10  Neither murmur ye, as some of them also murmured, and were destroyed of the destroyer.

1Co 10:11  Now all these things happened unto them for ensamples: and they are written for our admonition, upon whom the ends of the world are come.

Rom 15:4  For whatsoever things were written aforetime were written for our learning, that we through patience and comfort of the scriptures might have hope.

2Co 3:14  But their minds were blinded: for until this day remaineth the same vail untaken away in the reading of the old testament; which vail is done away in Christ.

1Ti 4:13  Till I come, give attendance to reading, to exhortation, to doctrine.
